What's the difference?
On Amazon, ASIN, UPC, EAN, and ISBN are different product identification codes used to track and catalog products. Here’s the difference between them:
• ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number): This is a 10-character alphanumeric identifier which is unique to Amazon and assigned to every product in Amazon's catalog.
• UPC (Universal Product Code): This is a 12-digit numeric barcode used in the U.S. and Canada and it's commonly used by retailers and suppliers outside of Amazon as well.
• EAN (European Article Number): This is a 13-digit numeric barcode system used internationally (outside North America).
• ISBN (International Standard Book Number): This is a unique identifier for books, assigned to each edition and format and required for books to be sold in most marketplaces, including Amazon.
When listing a product, Amazon may require a UPC, EAN, or ISBN as a source identifier. Amazon then generates and assigns an ASIN to each product.
